At school I love most of my subjects, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be science. I love learning about physics, biology chemistry, astronomy,-all of it!I work hard at school and get straight A’s. I take my academics very seriously. I have made Honor Roll each semester since 5th grade. I have also won the Presidential Award every year of middle school. This is given to students who have maintained an A average for the year and completed a certain number of community service hours.
My favorite academic event of the year is the science fair. Last year I had the idea to see if adding caffeine to growing seeds would make them grow faster. I planted some seeds and watered them daily with coffee and had the control group treated with water. I was hoping the antioxidants also found in coffee would further enhance the growth process. What I discovered was the coffee plants failed to grow because coffee caused the soil too become to acidic.
In 6th grade I competed with classmates at Destination Imagination which is a STEM based elective. We buildt a balsa wood structure weighing just 26 grams that was able to support 270 pounds. As one of the top two teams in our division, we qualified for the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, TN. In the end we were not able to go, but it was awesome to be recognized.
In 7th as well as 8th grade I have taken an elective called Future City which is where we design virtual city. We use SimCity software to design the city. Last year we had to design an age friendly city. This year we are building a resilient power grid. My role in the group is to be the project planner.
